Welcome to our official feedback forum. Do you have an idea? Do you recognize a good idea when you see one? We want to hear from you!

I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Migrate Freenet wiki to Mediawiki

Mirate Freenet wiki (http://wiki.freenetproject.org/) to standard MediaWiki.

MediaWiki is a de facto standard for wiki software (used by wikipedia for example).

Wikka Wakka that we have now uses slightly different wiki code dialect and a different GUI. It may require some additional effort to learn and thus limit users contribution.

    • securety level for each friend

Currently you can configure a securety level for all of your friends.
But there are some friends i know better or not so good. So i would like to configure a level for each of my friends, not for all of them the same.

        • password to start and open freenet

there should be a password to start or access freenet and maybe a combinations of keys(like keyloggers programs have) in order to access freenet is started so users that share the computer whit room mates/family/wife can leave freenet running 24/7 and dont have to worry about who can access freenet and see what is downloading or uploading

            • add a freenet search-engine plugin for browsers

Many browsers (IE, FF, Opera, Konqueror,.. ) have a search bar which automatically searches with a specified plugin (standard Google, Yahoo or Bing). It should be easy to create a similar plugin to support the freenet search protocol.

              • Collusion prevention mechanism based on IP address ranges

A very simple but powerful mechanism to prevent colluding sybil nodes from obtaining too many connections with a target node could look like as follows:

Each node seeks for a certain IP address-based diversity in his direct neighbors. That is: the more prefix bits are shared between two nodes' IP addresses, the more likely one of them will be declined as a possible opennet neighbor. Or, generally, a node just has to make sure that the mean distance between the selected neighbors' IPs is as low as possible. (the mean distance could be defined as, say, the average taken over…

                • Create "move Freenet folder" option

I wanted to move the FN folder to a drive with more space. This included 2 installs, 1 uninstall, 1 'orphaned' Freenet instalation (because it didn't detect I already installed in a different folder, when I uninstalled it deleted the first one but left the service loading of the other), 2-3 folder copy operations, until I got it right. Too much trouble don't you think?

                  • Must be easier, must have more content. These are related!!

I am an extreme techie. Freenet is not worth the effort. I *could* figure it out, but it would take WAY too long. And I *would* take the time to figure it out *if* there was lots of content. But if I really want to get anything, in 5 minutes or less it is on its way via Bittorrent. And I have an extreme rig, massively fast connection (50 MBs down, 5 up), 6TB of drive space -- I would be very happy to contribute my resources to Freenet, but why? It doesn't appear as if anyone uses Freenet. Here's…

Much work has been done on making Freenet easier to use, and much more will be done. You will note that bittorrent does not provide a search function: It is dependant on websites linking to trackers. Such websites are highly vulnerable to takedown, blocking, etc. Oh and I don’t understand what you say about “figuring it out” – clearly you HAVE managed to get it installed or you wouldn’t be complaining about it being slow, right?

                    • start to work to make a mobile phone version.

Mobile phone were always connected to web and always on.
They use less power than a computer. They have big storage.

Soon (in a few years) they will replace home computer for many people.

Today freenet run on the nokia n900 (very slow but it's run), so it's not impossible to do.

Cheap basic phones replace nothing for a lot more people – hundreds of millions – but the basic phones in 10 years may be close to the expensive ones today. And the platform is nowhere near as locked down as it used to be (mostly). Technically, Android includes all the bits of the JDK that we use, so it’s not so difficult to make it run. But the idea of a node running continually, exchanging data continually over the generally throttled and expensive data tariff is probably not realistic. IMHO what would be a good deal more interesting would be exchanging data rapidly via wifi with your friends’ phones when they are in range (e.g. when you go to the pub). This is very long term stuff.

                      • Remove all completed downloads button

Currently you have to klick on each download to remove it from the list of completed downloads with a resulting pagereload...
It would be much better to just have a butten remove all, or have checkboxes to select the downloads and remove all selected...

Being worked on. Sorry for the problems you’ve been having… One big part of it in my experience is memory issues, the db4o branch should help a lot with this, it will be merged within the next few weeks.

                          • Add rss feed to the News section

Add rss or Atom feed to the News section. Announcement Mailing list is nice, but requires subscription/unsubscription engine, dealing with bounces, vacation messages, blacklisting.

For users RSS is easier to deal with, as email change does not affect the subscription and no micro-management is necessary.

It happened to me a few times... that I have lost all my 'friends' connections.

It didn't happen often, but it is extremely annoying. Could Freenet automatically backup the data of friends, so that if something goes wrong, I can choose to turn back to the backup of: 1 day ago, 1 week ago, 1 month ago (or something similar)

                                  • Cliques - completely interconnected peer groups

Current options for connectedness are either exactly defining who you are connected to, or allowing connections from people you don't know. I'd like to propose a midground where you can connect to a group of people (maybe a new kind of node reference) and treat them as your opennet, with the allowance to also have darknet peers outside the clique. I think this concept would simplify the task of setting up freenet for groups and organizations.

                                    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clique_(graph_theory)

                                    • dining cryptographers as a plugin

Implement the dining cryptographers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dining_cryptographers_protocol) as a transport layer. It would provide even better anonymity than the current darknet scheme.

Of course this would be a very big change to implement.
